WHAT IS A
PHOTO GICLEE

The original photograph is digitally scanned and then printed in the most archival water-based organic inks available (65+ years) on a state-of-the-art Iris inkjet printer. Watercolor paper or cotton duck canvas is attached to the Iris drum that sprays ink onto the surface at more than 4 million drops per second. The result is a museum quality print with tremendous resolution!

Giclee prints are displayed at major museums throughout the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum.

Arlene's Photo GicleeS on PAPER are printed on  heavyweight, slightly textured acid-free watercolor paper (Somerset Velvet Radiant White) that gives the photo an antique look, like one found in an old African steamer trunk. They are finished with a border, a UV coating and a hand deckled edge.

Arlene's Photo GicleeS on Canvas  (cotton duck) are treated with special UV light retardant and light stabilizer post coatings that give a sheen to the photo. The canvas is stretched with staples to the back so they don't need to be framed.

A small elephant baby suckles while another tiny calf invites it to come play. The youngster suckles casually, legs crossed, and is probably just about to disengage from the snack bar. Young elephants nurse frequently to keep up with the energy demands of a rapidly growing body. Addo Elephant N.P., South Africa

Sometimes life is just too much for a newborn, even if you are the largest land mammal in the world. At a time like that, the only thing that helps is to snuggle up to your mother, who can provide the best protection in the African bush. Addo Elephant N.P., South Africa

This newborn elephant is unsteady and its eyesight is poor, so it must stay protected between its mother and its older sibling. But the older calf seems to be using a bit too much force – sibling jealousy perhaps? It may soon be corrected by the auntie towering behind them! Addo Elephant N.P., South Africa
