WHAT IS A
PHOTO GICLEE?
The original photograph is digitally scanned and then printed
in the most archival water-based organic inks available (65+
years) on a state-of-the-art Iris inkjet printer.
Watercolor paper or cotton duck canvas is attached to the Iris
drum that sprays ink onto the surface at more than 4 million drops
per second. The result is a museum quality print with
tremendous resolution!
Giclee prints are displayed at major museums throughout the world
including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum.

Photo GicleeS on
PAPER are printed
on
heavyweight, slightly textured acid-free watercolor paper (Somerset
Velvet Radiant White)
that gives
the photo an antique look,
like one found in an old African steamer trunk.
They are finished with a border, a UV coating and a hand deckled edge.

light stabilizer post coatings that give a sheen to the photo.
The canvas is stretched with
staples to the back so they don't need to be
framed.

“Can Barely
Reach” PE019 giclee of photo
© Arlene Gawne 1999
A newborn struggles
almost on tiptoe to suckle. Although it is 30” high at birth,
its mother is the largest mammal on earth! Some elephants seem
oblivious to their offspring’s struggle to reach the teat, but
perhaps this helps the youngster to develop its balance and
muscles. Addo

PE003 giclee of photo
A tiny elephant
inquisitively peers out from under its mother’s bristly tail,
while an “auntie” stands watch nearby. A newborn calf has poor
vision, which makes it extremely vulnerable in the forest of
massive elephant legs. If the baby strays from its mother’s
side, its auntie will will follow it and usher it back to its
mother. Addo
